Alternative Energy Sources:
Saving Energy and Saving Money
The economy today is hitting everyone's bank account hard. We are always looking for ways to save money. There is one way that you can save some money
every month. Yes, you read right. There is a way that you can save a 100 dollars or more a month. Do we have
your attention now? Good!
How many of us get our utility bills out of the mailbox every month and groan when we see how high the bill is?
No matter how hard we try to lower our energy bills they always seem to high. Well, have you ever heard of
alternate energy sources? There are ways that you can get energy into your home and end those bills from the
utility companies completely. Read on and we will tell you about some of these sources.

There are a few different alternate energy sources. One is solar energy. Solar is energy radiated from the suns
rays. There are two different ways that we can use the suns energy. First, we have solar thermal. This technique
uses energy directly from the sun to produce heat. Solar panels can be used to catch the heat from the sun and
transfer into water and space heat. These panels are placed where they can catch the maximum of the sun throughout
the day. The other way is photovoltaic. This changes the suns power into electricity.
There are also direct and indirect solar energy. Direct solar energy takes only one step. One example of this
would be sunlight hitting a solar cell by which electricity is instantly produced. Indirect solar power involves
more then one steps. An example being that plants change sunlight onto chemical energy, bio fuel can be made
from them. Let us tell you one more thing about solar energy. There are three focus points. Point focus is
where some kind of a dish shaped object is used to focus sunlight to one point. Line focus is about the same except
that the dish is more trough shaped or a line of mirrors are used to directly transfer sun rays into electricity.
The third is non-focus. This is the most common; this is where solar panels are used.
Another alternative energy source is wind energy. Wind energy is used for producing electricity. The Earth’s
surface is what makes the wind, and as long as the sun is up, wind will be a renewable energy source. Things like
windmills and wind turbines can use this. Geothermal is another alternative energy source. This is the most
powerful source of alternative energy and it comes from the Earth. There are two ways that you can produce
geothermal energy. One is by using hot water directly and the second is by converting heat into electricity. This
energy comes to the surface by flow of water, steam or injected and brought up by the work of humans.
We have shared just a few of the alternative energy sources. There are a few more out there. Any of these
sources, if put to work properly, can lower your electricity bill tremendously or cut out you having to use an
electric company at all. Not only is using alternative energy sources a great way of saving money; they are also a
great way in helping to protect our environment.
